If a friend or family member wants to talk about life or their health, the best thing to do is listen and support them. All they may need to know is that you always have their back.

What You Can Do:

Create a safe environment. Approximately 90% of attempters who survive a nonfatal attempt will not go on to die by suicide thereafter. Research has shown time and again that restricting access to lethal means (such as firearms and other highly lethal methods) can save lives.

How to create a safe environment:

  • Safeguarding your home
  • Let's Be Clear
  • Free Gun locks are available - contact the Watertown Police Department at 605-882-6210
  • Rethinking Drinking
  • SD Quitline
  • Cessation resource sheet
  • Gun safety courses
  • Nalox Boxes, Medication lock boxes, and Dispose Rx packets available through NE Prevention Resource Center
